Horror Books! BTT #3

It's Thursday and I'm early!

What with yesterday being Halloween, and all . . . do you read horror? Stories of things that go bump in the night and keep you from sleeping?

I thought about asking you about whether you were participating in NaNoWriMo, but I asked that last year. Although . . . if you want to answer that one, too, please feel free to go ahead and do both, or either, your choice!

The most memorable horror book I ever read was Carrie by Stephen King! Trust me, it's full of horrors, that book. Gave me nightmares and I'm not just saying it. It's true. The movie was MUCH more scarier. I will never watch it alone.

Actually, I prefer to read horror books than to watch horror films. So, I don't really mind horror books that much.

Well, I don't really remember what other horror books I've read. When I was younger, to me, horror books were those of Fear Street and Goosebumps! I'd buy a couple of them and then for some rainy night with thunderstorms and lightning, then I'd settle down and read them. I wanted to feel the excitement or feeling of being scared!

Now to the next question: NaNoWriMo...no, I'm not joining it as I don't have the time to write so much, unfortunately. Perhaps next year?

  1. I've never read Carrie, but I saw the end of the movie (starting with the pig's blood), and I nearly jumped out of my skin!
The only horror novel I've read is also King: Pet Sematary. It put me off horror altogether, as I found it much too hard to sleep after reading it!

  3. mei: Pet Sematary...that's a new word to me. Yikes! At least I could still sleep after Carrie! =)

gautami tripathy: Wow, good luck then since you're going to write a lot! May you always get inspirations. =)

  4. I have never read Carrie, but I have seen the movie. I didn't find it all that scary though. Perhaps that in part was because I sympathized with Carrie's character so much. It was much more a tragic story for me.

  5. literary feline: To me, the scariest character in the movie is Carrie's mom! I agree with you, Carrie is not all that frightening. She's a character whom people can easily sympathize with.

  6. The brand of horror available now is quite foreign to me. In my teens, we loved this series with titles like "The Doll" (a porcelain doll that came to life), "The Game" (the Ouija board), "Bloodsport" (I forget the subject matter).

The Doll was so scary I begged to sleep in my parents' room even though I was 14 or 15 then! :P

  7. Wow...The Doll must be an extremely scary book!!! Hahhaha!

I've also never heard of those 3 books you mentioned. I'll look around for them and try reading them for myself. =D
