I found this meme from Book Club Classics!

What is the best classic you were “forced” to read in school (and why)?
If only we did read classics in school. I mean, reading the whole unabridged version. The only ones we read were Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe and The Pearl by John Steinbeck. Those were the really simplified versions.

What was the worst classic you were forced to endure (and why)?
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. It was so boring that I skipped several pages. Too long-winded for me. I wanted to read Sense and Sensibility next but decided to skip that too!

Which classic should every student be required to read (and why)?
Uncle Tom's Cabin. To learn about history, slavery, and injustice.

Which classic should be put to rest immediately (and why)?
It has to be Jane Austen's classics.

**Bonus** Why do you think certain books become “classics”?
Hmm, I don't know why either. Strong plot? Unforgettable characters? Happy endings? The really difficult aka boring level of English? Yeah, I guess these determine why classics are classics.

Book Giveaway #2: Gossip Girl Book!

Yay!!! My second book giveaway. This time, I'm going to give one lucky reader a Gossip Girl book which I bought from eBay last year. So, it's kind of 3rd hand but still looking good. It's plastic-wrapped too. Only open to those living in Malaysia.

I wanted to try reading Gossip Girl since it's quite a popular series. Well, unfortunately, I didn't like it after all. It just didn't appeal to me. But I like watching the show! Anyway, I hope this copy gets into the hands of someone who actually enjoys reading this kind of book!

Back To School and IComLeavWe

Yeah, great start for my first day back at university. First class was okay. Then, I went to my school's office to fax a letter. Unfortunately, the fax/letter couldn't be sent so I guess I have to try again another day. Well, today's a busy day for them and for all those electronical stuff because today's the last day for us students to register our courses. You know, computers running, people using the Internet, telephones ringing, etc.

Okay, my second class was supposed to start at 4 pm and I thought I might take a nap. Hah! I went to sleep and woke up at 3.15 pm and checked my phone. My friend sent me an SMS at 2.43 pm telling me that class would start at 3 pm instead! I quickly ate my lunch, changed, hopped into my car and drove away! Luckily, this lecturer is not that strict and anyway, it's first day of class. So, no legal action was taken. There were a few others who were later than me too.

Ooh, I'm not taking Spanish this semester. :( I already have enough papers. Perhaps next semester!

Friday Finds (July 4, 2008)

Yesterday I went to Borders and of course, I could have found a lot of 'finds' there. But the two books that really stood out were:

I found a new blog today: In Spring it is the Dawn. The blogger, Tanabata, is holding a book giveaway too! It's in conjunction with BAFAB: Buy A Friend A Book Week. This BAFAB sounds so fun!
