BTT: Books vs Movies

Books and films both tell stories, but what we want from a book can be different from what we want from a movie. Is this true for you? If so, what’s the difference between a book and a movie?

This was last Thursday's question but I'll just do it now! Better late than never!

Now, this is an interesting query. I like reading books and watching movies but it does not mean that I'll like the movies which were made based on books. Take Harry Potter, for example. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the first 3 books. When the first movie came out, Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone, naturally, like every other Harry Potter fan at that time, was terribly excited.

I wondered how the movie will turn out. Will it be everything exactly like the book? Will all the dialogues/conversations in the book be in the movie? Okay, so that sounds totally impossible. Even if they wanted to put in ALL the conversations from the book, then I guess it wouldn't be a movie anymore. It might just be a mini-series! Even better!

However, I was disappointed with the first HP movie. Boring scenes, stiff acting, and Dumbledore was so old and fragile. At least the second HP movie was a little bit better. The third one was probably the best one.

Bottomline is I preferred the Harry Potter books. I enjoyed reading the books but not the movies, sadly. And to answer the question, yes, books can be absolutely different from movies. Some books are better than its movies, some movies are better than its books, and some are just as good!

  2. Hey, I'm the same! I prefer to watch the movie BEFORE reading the book. If I were to read the book first, then it'd spoil the movie for me.

Well, are you going to read book 5? :)
